Some Fashion Thirst is Quenched

Today was a very lovely day! I got to spend a whole day with my best friend, Kylie! It has been quite sometime since we have been able to go out together and do our favorite things. Today this included eating dinner at our favorite place, Carrows, and going shopping. Our first stop was Target, where I picked up some necessities (make up, kleenex, qtips, etc.) but was also on a search for colored, patterned or lace tights. I wanted to find some before it got too warm to wear tights and I assumed Target would be a good place. I was disappointed when their selection had been torn through pretty heavily. I did find tow pair, both on sale, which was an incredible plus! That is probably the only reason why I got bright purple tights as well as a kind of woven blue and gray pair. It was about $5 for both pair, and I still am unsure how I'll wear them. Any suggestions on how to wear some pretty stand-out-in-a-crowd tights? I'd love to hear some ideas! We went to Kohls afterward where Kylie found a really cute pair of athletic shoes and I searched for more tights! I had a Kohls gift card for Kohls so I bought a couple pricier but better quality tights. Also, much more wearable, as they are dark purple and navy. I'm really looking forward to using these tights in my outfits! I feel like I am finally catching up to some trends I have loved! We then headed over to Carrows, greeted our favorite waitress, and enjoyed some good catch up conversation over the usual meal: grilled chicken salads with Diet Pepsi to drink. Perfect.  With it only being 7:45 when we finished, we decided to go to Ross. I hadn't been in so long, I forgot how wonderful Ross is! I purchased a blue and white nautical style striped shirt, ankle boots, and black gladiator sandals. I'm quite looking forward to using all these pieces! I had been wanting colored tights, a nautical shirt, and black sandals for a while now, I'm so happy that that thirst has been quenched! All in all it was a lovely and needed day, thanks Kylie!

My outfit today:
Dress: Gautchalk's
Leggings: Simply Vera, Vera Wang for Kohls
Boots: Chadwhick's
Bag: Carlos Santana signature series from Macy's
Earrings: Gift from Kylie

It was also a fairly cold day here on the Central Coast of California...

Looking forward to another lovely day tomorrow...I wonder what new thing I'll wear, looking forward to it all!

Winter Just Keeps Coming

It seems that with every glimmer of warmer weather, a few days of rain soon follow. I never thought I would be the type of person looking forward to spring and summer as I considered myself a winter girl. I always pictured myself living in areas of the world where it was mostly foggy and raining. My opinions have definitely changed! After the coldest and wettest winter it seems California has ever had (probably not true, but feels that way) I realize how much I miss the sun. Yesterday, the weather was lovely. A nice breeze and sunny all day. However, today was cold and filled with fog, and is now currently storming outside.
Today though was a needed day of catching up on some rest. The week seemed to be so busy and full that it was nice to have a down day. Yesterday's bible study went well. We studied the story of Rahab and I was really impacted with the message. Rahab was a Canaanite, woman, and prostitute. She was probably as low as low could get on the socioeconomic of the time. Yet, God used her for His greater purpose in such a huge way. If it wasn't for her the Israelites would have never conquered Jericho and reach the promised land. I love how her whole identity changed from being a prostitute to being someone who God uses and whose life carries so much purpose. Our message for the study was to not define yourself by your past or the things you are doing, but by the purpose God has for your life, and how we can live in that. It helps us see ourselves as his beautiful children who will be used for a greater purpose than we even know!

Also had a small group leaders meeting during the evening yesterday, which was a really lovely time! I got to spend some good one-on-one time with another leader named Brittany. We got to open up about our lives, and pray together and I really felt God in the moment! I'm looking forward to spending some more time with her, she is so full of God and inspires with how easily she acknowledges God in all situations, despite how hard they are.

With a busy but fulfilling week behind me, I got to sleep a lot today. Also, got some exercise by playing a little dance dance revolution, which I used to be pretty good at but haven't been as up to par as of late! I'm working on building up my speed and stamia though!

I also spent some time with the boyfriend Daniel, which was lovely.
After a nice meal at home with my family, it is nice to relax again and be able to blog a little.
My outfit for today:

Dress: Styles 4 Less
Leggings: Vera Wang for Kohls
Boots: Steve Madden
Scarf: Previously my Grandma's (rest in peace <3), she got it from Russia!
Bag: Carlos Santa signature series from Macy's
Earrings: Clair's

My mom found this scarf today and I fell in love with it. What made it even better was that it was my Grandmothers which she got from Russia. Not only is it a lovely scarf, but it holds sentimental value. Those clothing items are usually the ones that I love the most. I love when an item has a story behind it. It was also my 'pop of color' for a rather dark outfit. (So windy while trying to take these!)

A better view of the bag.

I got these earrings on sale at Clair's for like a buck or two. I love them and was so happy to finally be able to wear them today!

Tomorrow I will get to spend some quality time with my best friend, can't wait!

Hello Wednesday, it's me Shannon

Today was a pretty low-key Wednesday I must say. Not that Wednesdays are ever particularly enthralling, but today it seemed to be especially slow and uneventful. I slept in (which is always beautiful), enjoyed a morning with my Mom, ate brunch, and went to my Chemistry Lab. My chem lab is the only reason I have to go to school on Wednesdays, and is scheduled from 2:15-5pm. Fortunately, the lab only went until about 3:45 today! I came home afterward, spent some time lounging, and them homework. On the rest of my quiet day was spent getting a decent amount of homework and reading done.
It was also gray and rainy out today, which affected my mood some. I love winter, rain and fog but am looking forward to some days with a little sunshine in them. I want to walk outside and not have to wear a jacket. Or to wear dresses and skirts without tights!
Tomorrow will be a pretty packed day so I need to make sure to get some good sleep tonight!

My outfit today was pretty comfy for doing a lab and staying at home. I've done something similar before, but I really like the 'boyfriend' look and this was one of my first attempts at it!

Shirt: Ralph Lauren, my boyfriend's shirt!
Leggings: ?
Boots: Chadwhick's
Belt: Thrifted
Necklace: f21

Another sassy pose as my mom and I usually feel silly taking photos in the middle of the street!

This was the necklace I was wearing:

Definitely one of my favorites :)

Well I think it's time to call it a night and try to get some sleep!

So my attempts at keeping my blog going has not been going very well, but here I am attempting again!

This weekend was interesting, fulfilling, emotional and a blast- all at the same time. I am apart of a on campus Christian ministry at my community collage called InterVarsity. InterVarsity holds various conferences throughout the year. This last weekend was their annual Winter Conference. Winter Conference consists of three tracks: identity, leadership, and racial reconciliation. Depending on if this is the first, second or third year that you have gone usually depends on what track you are in. I went to Winter Conference two years ago, when I was only 17, just left high school early, and only in my 2nd semester of college. However, that experience, two years ago, changed my views of Jesus and the meaning of being a follower of Him. I'll never forget the deep impact that conference had on me as I looked into my identity and what it really means to call yourself a follower. That Jesus should be the center of every part of your life. I still reflect back on all the teachings I had in that conference whenever I am dealing with things in my life now. This year, however, I was in the leadership track. I have been co-leading a bible study on campus for about 2 years now, so it was great to have some God centered views and scripture concerning being a leader. I learned and reflected on a lot, on my own leadership style, and how I viewed it. We discussed the problems of viewing leadership has a job and obligation, rather than with gratitude and opportunity. I really felt God shift my heart into inaccurate feelings and views and above all refreshed my love of leading a bible study, and helped me only want to grow closer to Him through during so. Another point that stuck out to me as well, was looking at how God really doesn't need any of us or the things we try to give Him. However, he wants us, and all he asks for in return is thanksgiving, gratitude and glory. We are really a very fortunate people that God's heart is the way it is. He is the master that serves us! I am always amazed with the backwardness that is so often seen in scripture (which I'll probably do a post on later).

The people I went with I love, and enjoyed their company very much! Daniel also was able to come along which made the trip 3950832 times better! I enjoyed learning about God, praying together, and growing together with Jesus in the center!

Here is the outfit that I wore on the first day, including the ride to Bakersfield, CA.

My mom just bought me this shirt, and I do like it a lot! It was very comfy and stylish, plus purple is my favorite color!

Shirt: Kohls, gifted
Pants: L.e.i
Flats: target
Sweater: target, thrifted
Bag: Old Navy

Don't know what's up with my mouth or feet in this one...

February 20, 2010

I know, same pants, shoes, and bag as the day before. It was a weekend trip, and I though I'd try to pack light and re-use items.
However, I was thrilled to find this black Old Navy blazer that my local thrift store for only $4! What a score. It fits great, isn't faded, and was probably barely worn. I was happy to make it's first appearance while in Bakersfield while at Winter Conference!

Blazer: Old Navy, thrifted
Pants: l.e.i
Flats: target
Shirt: French Quarter in SLO
Bag: Old Navy
Bow Headband: Clair's
Necklace: Betsy Johnson, gifted

And yes, that is an ice cream cone.

This is kind of a to be continued post as I'm sure I'll post more photos of Bakersfield later!
Here's to hoping I stay updated!

Getting Comfortable with a Blog

I absolutely love the world of blogging. I follow so many inspirational fashion bloggers, and I love their blogs and style. I keep wanting to attempt being a consistent blogger. I switched to tumblr for a while, but most the blogs I follow are on here! So I came back, I still have my tumblr, an I'll probably still continue to flip flop. However, I'm going to give it a go on blogger again.
Here is my tumblr for those interested!

I plan this blog to be a lifestyle and fashion blog, for those few who may ever read this, thank you and I hope you do enjoy!

Here was an outfit I put together last Thursday, I really liked it. It came to me the night before and I wasn't sure how it would look, but I was quite pleased with the results.

Skirt: Previously my Grandmother's
Shoes: Target
Tights: JC Penney's
